For this „No Sugar“ Challenge, I have decided to give up added, artificial, and refined sugar completely, and cut my all overall sugar intake for at least 4 weeks. This challenge is really challenging even to think about it, as it will be super hard for me to give up sugar.
Why am I doing this challenge?
Honestly, I have realized the truth, that I am quite „addicted“ to sugar. Sometimes my sweet tooth is pretty bad. And when you notice on yourself having headaches or feeling tired when you don´t have your portion of sweets, you realize that it´s time to do something with that. For example, to have coffee without something small is for me unimaginable.
I have read several studies which are saying, that sugar can cause several diseases, like heart disease, diabetes or cancer. And of course the high intake of sugar causes obesity and diseases linked with that.
When pregnant with my baby, in about end of second trimester occurred an acid reflux. Which surprised me, because I have never had this issue. I have to admit, that I have gained too much weight. I found out, that these refluxes are continuing even a year after giving birth. And I have noticed changes in my face. Thank goodness I don´t suffer with acne, but I have a lot of redness in my face. Which can be caused by inflammation. But to be honest, my food choices are not healthiest. When feeling tired or without energy (which also can be caused with the lack of sugar level in my blood), I like to reach for anything, what contains sugar (pastry, rice, potatoes, sweets, cakes, etc.).
So how am I going to fix this problem of mine? I would like to cut out „man made“ sugar from my diet and to left only the one from the nature (contained in fruits and veggies).
Actually when it comes to sugar intake, it´s mostly in between meals. In cooked food I am always trying to substitute the sugar for honey and white sugar has no place in my kitchen anymore.
How long will this challenge last?
I would like to try this challenge for 4 weeks and find out, if I will see and feel any noticeable changes in my energy levels and overall look and health.
When doing some research about this theme, I have read, that when you cut the sugar out of your diet, your body will start to digest food in a different way. Since I am used to process large amounts of sugar, I hope after this challenge I won´t crave it as much as I do now.
So fingers crossed. The official start is on Monday, the 9th January. I will post updates about this challenge every week so stay tuned. If you want to, you can join me in this challenge and update meal plans and experiences with each other. Who´s in?
